ATTENDANCE POLICY

Being a member of a team requires a high degree of commitment. As with an engine, all parts are required and to be in good condition for a team to work efficiently, if at all. Every member is important to the team. Absences and tardies hurt the team. Therefore, the following policy must be adhered to over the duration of the season:

Travel:
During the season, it may be necessary to travel for certain games/tournaments. Overnight accommodations are often necessary.  All expenses associated with travel and lodging are the players’ responsibilities.

Tardy-Excused (more than 4 in the season is unreasonable and will affect playing time):

It is recognized that, on rare occasions, unavoidable personal and family situations come up. When this happens, the coaching staff needs to be notified before the meeting, practice, or game. The only acceptable excuse is one that is signed by a parent/guardian and states a valid reason (coaches’ discretion). School events will be considered excused when written proof of the event is submitted to the coach or team managers.

Absence-Excused:

As with tardies, the only absences that will be excused are for unavoidable situations. The only excuse that will be accepted is one that is signed by a parent/guardian and states a valid reason. The coaching staff needs to be notified at least 24 hours before the meeting, practice, or game. No player will participate in a game having been absent on the previous practice day, unless the absence is excused. School events will be considered excused when written proof of the event is submitted to the coach or team managers. Excused illnesses will require a return note from the doctor to document the office visit. Excused vacations should be approved by the coach at least two weeks in advance. (If absences are a problem, upon coaches’ discretion, reduced playing time, non-participation in a game, and even dismissal from the team may result.)

Example of excused absence: Player was ill and could not attend school; will not attend practice. Player has a return note from the doctor that documents the visit.

Absence-Unexcused:

Your absence is unexcused when you either come more than forty-five minutes late to a team function, or don't come at all, and do not follow the procedures as listed above to have your absence excused. Vacations are approved on a case by case basis and must be announced to the coaches at least two weeks in advance.

Example of unexcused absence: We're missing training/match to visit relatives, taking personal/family vacation during season without adequate notice, extracurricular and other conflicting, voluntary activities.

Consequences:

  • 1st absence – Punishment at next training session (Coach’s decision)

  • 2nd absence – Sit out next game

  • 3rd absence – Sit out two games

  • 4th absence – Parent/Player/Coach Meeting

Note: An injury, punishment or sit out does not excuse you from attending games or team functions to show support.
